The month of may

Just a quick post to say the month of May is very busy for the FairPlay Spanish lessons. We have almost double the customers of any other months, therefor the cooking class was crowded and there was a lot of mingling between the students.

Also the FairPlay volleyball team won a tournament and the members of the team have won a free dinner. Sonya, one of the members of the team had this to say about the day. "I felt really glad when we won, but I did not like losing, I was full of vigor and joy. I especially wanted to win to have the free food" We forgot our camera but we will try to find some photos of the day. We will be back at you with them as soon as possible.

FairPlay is also offering English lessons to the teachers. Here is a foto of the girls in action.

FairSalsa training - week two

It is week two of training for our fantastic salsa teachers, and as you can see from the pictures below (and video in the above post), they're all working hard down in their gym on Avenida de la Cultura. We have seven young men and seven young women, who are being put through their paces by Coco, our brilliant salsa tutor, and Fanny, FairPlay's president. All are young, talented and enthusiastic local people who otherwise would not be able to afford the training they need to secure themselves a brighter future. By September, after four months of intensive training, they will be ready to teach tourists. Not long now until FairSalsa opens its doors to the world! There will be more information as we have it on the FairPlay website, and you can also join our FairSalsa Facebook group to keep up to date with the latest news.

Microchips and salsa

Just a quick post to update you on two bits of progress here at FairPlay. Thanks to a recent donation, we now have to brand new computers for our students and volunteers to use.

Perhaps more exciting than I.T. is the fact that the interviews for our first group of FairSalsa teachers have now finished, and the successful candidates began their training today. In four months time they will be fully fledged, hip-shaking dance teachers! More on that soon...

Hola y bienvenido!

Hello and welcome to the FairPlay blog. Over the coming weeks, we will begin using this blog to spread the word about the fantastic Spanish courses, volunteer placements and homestay opportunities that our organisation offers. We will be posting news about what is going on here in Cusco, and reporting on our efforts to raise funds for our latest project: the city's first daycare centre for mentally handicapped children. We will also be posting news about FairSalsa, the brilliant new dance school that will be opening its doors in September.

In the meantime, if you are coming to Cusco (whether to see Machu Picchu or otherwise) and would like to know what we can offer you, please click here. If you are interested in donating to the daycare centre, or in otherwise helping FairPlay's great work providing training to disadvantaged local people, please click here. If you are a former student or volunteer, we would love to hear from you, so please get in touch or join our Facebook group!
